Weekend Drinking. Are you doing more damage than good?

Weekend Drinking. Are you doing more damage than good?

It's Fryay!!!

Ever wonder what weekend drinking from Friday through Sunday really does to your body?

After a long week - all you want to do is to relax and recharge.

But you also want to have fun and catch up with the crew over drinks - that’s all well and good but a few drinks unknowingly maybe exacerbating the stress and exhaustion from your previous week.

Firstly alcohol disrupts your sleep cycle, leaving you groggy and fatigued—even after what may feel like a full night’s rest.

It also acts as a diuretic, meaning it increases the amount of water lost when you pee.

There is a hormone called vasopressin that alcohol prevents release of, usually this hormone signals to the kidneys to reabsorb water and so without it you end up peeing more. This can lead to dehydration causing headaches and a terrible hangover.

And if you care about the calories: there’s that too - empty calories contributing to your waist line.

Lastly, alcohol is a depressant the first few drinks may get you to a nice happy state, but from there it's all down hill into depressing your nervous system- causing mental fogginess, anxiety & mood swings.

So let's rethink how we truly relax and recharge over the weekend as we may be doing more damage than good.  🍃
